Message from Mr Cooper, Headteacher

As I approach the last day as Headteacher of Belper, I find myself reflecting on so many great aspects of my time at the school.  The experiences I have enjoyed and the memories I have created will last a lifetime and I will fondly look back on my time at the school as a very happy period of my life.  Leading a large school like Belper is complex and multi-faceted with many twists and turns every day.  With over 1200 students and over 150 staff there are an unbelievable number of interactions and dynamic situations that can spring up at any point.  All of those people bring different personalities, viewpoints and characters to the daily working practices of a busy school and certainly keeps us on our toes!

I cannot believe how fast these last six years have gone and how many amazing experiences there have been during this time.  When I first joined the school, it was the beginning of a new phase of Belper School’s life and a drive from everyone to make a difference and to move the school forward started.  I hope that as all the people involved in this look back they will be able to reflect that their efforts truly did wake the sleeping giant that Belper School was and helped build very strong foundations for the kick-on in the next phase of development.

There are a tremendous amount of fond memories and achievements that I am extremely proud of – way too many to list here.  I have been, and will continue to, share those memories and magic moments with many people over the next few weeks.  The one thing that I will say here though, is that my proudest and most lasting memory of this fabulous place will be the significant number of happy people who grew, developed and became somebody whilst in our care.  The school, the town and the surrounding villages are very special, and I am humbled and honoured to have been a small cog in this wonderful community.

Mr Cooper
