The Best Great British High Street award is given to high streets around the country. One winner is chosen each year for each category and then an overall winner is chosen from these. The categories include: City, Coastal, Local Centre, Market Town, Village, Town Centre and London High Streets.
In 2014 Belper High Street came first in the Market Town Category and then proceeded to be the overall winner, becoming the best high street in Great Britain. Judges said that Belper was a great example of how town centres can be transformed and that they were also impressed with the ambassador scheme Belper has started. The ambassador scheme consists of 80 people being trained to inform visitors about Belper and the high street.
