I feel tremendously proud and privileged to introduce myself as the Headteacher of Belper School and Sixth Form Centre.
As an experienced Headteacher I have extremely high standards and expectations of myself, the staff and the students. This involves all aspects of school life from effort, work-rate and ethos to conduct, behaviour and manners. There is a strong focus on the climate for learning within school and an emphasis on fundamental elements of learning and achievement. The rewards system aims to recognise the achievements and success of students and to motivate and inspire them. There is a focus on implementing a consistency with the school’s core values of mutual respect, equality and opportunity for all and a determination for every youngster to realise their potential within a caring educational community.
At Belper School many wonderful and varied opportunities exist for students and a significant number of them grab these opportunities with both hands and achieve educational excellence both in academic and non-academic areas. There is a drive to maintain this “Spirit of Belper” and enhance it across the school by focusing on core values and attitudes and ensuring we are being the very best we can be. We aim to set our students up to be happy and successful adults and develop the skills and abilities they will need to have to achieve their ambitions. This personal development is fundamental to our values.
There is a strong emphasis on students’ approach to learning and ensuring that they have a positive determination to learn and succeed. Staff work hard to provide an inspirational range of learning opportunities and students are encouraged to fully embrace these, being stretched and challenged at all times and nurtured and supported where required. We offer an outstanding array of extra-curricular activities and trips and our students achieve some simply stunning individual and team performances across all areas of their education.
Belper School has many excellent features and there is tremendous pride evident throughout the whole community towards the school. To be part of this is an absolute honour. There is a strong determination to develop the school further and over the next few years, with commitment from students and partnerships with parents, I am confident that the school will continue to go from strength to strength.
